Collection note

Documentary discovery: context is part of the viewing experience

Documentaries introduce real people, communities, evidence, and lived experience. Presentation should make that responsibility visible.

What context can do

A concise collection note can identify subject matter, explain why a work was selected, and flag when a viewer may want content information before watching. It should not overstate claims that the film itself must support.

Release with care

Rights, participant privacy, cultural sensitivity, music and archival material, and audience suitability can all matter. A documentary can stay off the active catalog until those questions are ready to answer.
